The Young Leaves 2013 full-length is 'Alive and Well' and Addictive |
It’s garage, it’s indie, it’s the band from your 1994 prom, it’s The Young Leaves.
I had the pleasure of catching The Young Leaves' record release show with Born Without Bones and Save Ends back in October before all three jetsetted to Florida for FEST, and ever since then, I’ve wandered back to the band whenever I crave some solid local music.
With a turbid mashup of Jonathan Richman and Elvis Costello sounding vocals, The Young Leaves create their own, unique sound out of a medley of catchy genres on the 2013 Alive and Well (Baldy Longhair Records). Described as “Indie pop covered in sludge. Would have been cool in 1994, still cool in 2013,” the gritty, no-frills sound does not compromise the integrity of the Holliston, MA three-piece.
Between the sincere lyrics in “There Was a Ghost Inside of Me”, the shamelessly addictive poppy vibe of “Drowning Pool” and the record’s title track, and all the heavy guitar work in between, Alive and Well is a sound album. Purchase limited edition colored vinyl of Alive and Well at Baldy Longhair Records and stream their recordings on Bandcamp today.
