Shazam could not help you, the internet vaguely knew what you were talking about, but your perseverance uncovered one, lonely and borderline defunct MySpace page. With just two tracks to entertain your new obsession, your success was bittersweet and you began to mentally sift through your list of college radio station connections who could possibly burn a copy of your new favorite record of songs you haven’t listened to yet.

Athens, Georgia 5-piecee Your American Math made a record 'Motors Into The Drink' in 2003. That record has a 10:04 song called “Annual Headache Drive”. 88.1FM WMBR has been playing it sporadically since its release date twelve years ago. And we now know what love is.

Hey guys, we found new music for you!

Fun fact. Many local music entities including Allston Pudding, WMBR’s Pipeline! and yours truly scour Bandcamp to find the next best Boston band. As the rules of Bandcamp Roulette suggest, it’s a tough job. But then you stumble upon a record with extreme potential like this Demo from Laika's Orbit, released in January of this year.

Spunky indie pop, tagged as “diet punk”, whatever the fuck that is, Laika’s Orbit is a ray of sunshine in an otherwise blizzardy wasteland of internet uploads.

Yeah it’s muffled, and sure they list upcoming shows, but where Laika’s Orbit, where?! Of course they don’t seem to have a social media page as far as we can tell, but we’re hooked. Bandcamp Roulette is a game of wits, luck, and perseverance. Log onto Bandcamp.com, pick a tag, any tag, search your guts out, get super discouraged and outraged at what the internet lets people upload, then, when you think all hope is lost, you find something tolerable.

For this edition, we take it back to Boston for an incredibly ridiculous electro/parody track called “Really Cool Wig” off of Lemon Demon’s 2011 Nature Tapes EP. If you enjoy this Weird Al meets Devo stuff, there’s also a song dedicated to Jaws.

Man Bear from Kansas City, Missouri will politely burst into your apartment, drink your beer, eat your pizza, and then make the bed in the morning. Also, they really like cats. Taking heavy cues from Hüsker Dü and early Paul Westerberg, “Talking Drunk at 2AM” off of their debut 2011 EP Talking Drunk, encompasses key ingredients that perfected 1980’s Midwest pop punk.

Pensive and emotive, New City Ghost channel the all the melodramatics of Mayday Parade with their upcoming 5-song EP Ossa Cava. Previewing two songs on Bandcamp now, the Rhode Island quartet are withholding their alternative rock, show-us-your-teeth track "Wake" for the May 20th release date. Let’s be honest, the word “punk” has been thrown around as carelessly as Mardi Gras beads at a bachelorette party. The beautiful and haunting sounds of Center of the Sun (NC), a band rumored to be on permanent hiatus via the abundance of exaggerated Facebook finale posts, lives on in the Bandcamp directory. “Cease” off of their 2012 record, Machine Gun, is a melancholy mixture of Metric and Mazzy Star.
